As far back as recorded history, the human race has seen the rise and fall of individuals who tested and surpassed the preconceived boundaries of what a man or woman could accomplish, birthing tales spanning the eons of super-human feats.
Whether it be the Biblical accounts of such fierce warriors as King David or Samson, the Norse chronicles of a Viking named Beowulf who slay atrocious beasts with relative ease, or the cunning Spartan mercenary Achilles, who bore the blood of Olympus in his veins, every culture has its share of larger-than-life figures. In the world of the outdoors, this is no exception…
While today our legends may not slay dragons or rescue damsels, they are no less accomplished in their feats, and support entire legions of students and reverent peers through teaching and inspiration. For every pursuit, there are heroes who define it at its utmost.
They are the ones who pioneer, who innovate, and provide the template that all others follow to success. At Stone’s Throw Adventure, we understand that much of the knowledge we implement comes from standing on the shoulders of giants.
To this end, we have dedicated a section of the site to honor those men and women who have made our sports what they are today. Considered to be a series of perpetual independent research projects, we hope to someday have an entire “Canyon of Heroes” honoring the legends of the outdoors.
If you feel you have awareness of such a hero in our times, one that has inspired your own adventures, please write to us at length for consideration, a brief description of the individual and their contributions to their respective field. If we accept the nomination, the candidate will be free to researched, presented, and honored on in this section.
Note: while we do understand that figures like grandparents and uncles that share that first fishing trip or hiking outing are certainly heroes in their own right, we are seeking to create a database of exceptional sportsmen and women who have made irrefutably monumental changes to their fields.
