Some of the most beautiful, symbolic, and majestic animals that live in Tennessee can be found soaring the skies on the thermals and currents…our rich and healthy populations of raptors is unrivaled by most any other location in the geographical U.S.
From the tiniest kestrels and merlins, hunting grouse in a field, to the powerful and confident bald eagle, unmatched in its mastery of the avian kingdom…all can be found here in our beloved middle Tennessee.
Yet, most often, these animals make their abodes far from the prying of human eyes and snapping lenses in some of the more remote areas, and even then, the dense foliage often makes it difficult to get a great shot on foot.
In this event, to pursue those who take to the sky, we must take to the water. Healthy populations of bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, and ospreys, the “fish eagles”, live around the Caney Fork river, but stay far from the frequented shoreline access points and launches. That is why we at Stone’s Throw Adventures offer an on-the-water photo safari of the rich and lush Caney Fork River in pursuit of these raptors.
Inspired by the many encounters during our angling trips, but preoccupied by the task at hand, we offer you the chance to climb aboard, with your camera and imagination in tow, to get shots of these animals in their natural environment, resting, nesting, fishing, and yes, even mating…a beautiful aerial dance with talons locked plummeting towards the ground only to take flight at the last possible moment.
Of course, eagles aren’t the only attraction here. Minke, otter, beaver, muskrats, and many other “critters” call the river home and make their presence known to those who know the nooks and crannies of the more remote sections, away from the crowds and freeways.
Your guide, Cory Allen, has fished these waters for years, and has become well acquainted not only with his fellow avian anglers, but with the history and details surrounding the river itself. Entertaining, informative, and enlightening, there will never be a dull moment on your journey down this pristine waterway.
Cory also has the experience and skill to get you as close as humanly possible to these creatures in a motor-powered outboard, providing ample opportunities for brilliant encounters and shots, without interfering with their daily existence, and spooking your subject away from focus
