Of all the practices and studies man has come to acquaint himself with and master over the centuries, few are as aesthetic, poetic, and exhilarating as the art of flyfishing. Developed to originally take advantage of the fly hatches that trout so readily prey upon, it has evolved into a world all it’s own, spawning a new breed of angler that has an astute connection with the waters he or she fishes, as well as requiring a finesse of presentation not found in many other tactics.

Flyfishing, unlike other forms of angling that requires the weight of a lure to reach an intended target on a cast, utilizes a technique in which the line itself is cast, allowing even the smallest of offerings to be presented before a fickle trout with minute detail and sniper precision.
The cast, the rise of a trout to inspect its meticulously prepared prey, and the slurp of a big trout fooled into the dance of angling is nothing short of poetry come to fruition.
There are few places on earth better to learn, hone, and see the art of flyfishing in action than on the majestic Caney Fork river, home to the triple crown of trout angling, where classic rainbow trout, scrappy brook trout, and the unparalleled trophy brown trout are regularly taken by the skilled fly angler.
Few anglers know how to present the fly, from a tiny surface midge to a deep stripped streamer, than Stone’s Throw Adventures Guide Bill Bird. Perfecting his craft in the hallowed waters of the West on Colorado’s Arkansas River, he brings that expertise from some of the most difficult waters onto the fruitful Caney Fork river, one of south’s finest trout waters.
Fishing the Caney like a religion since his move to Tennessee in 2005, he has learned to tackle the river with the precision of his Clackacraft drift boat. With this safe and stable fishing vessel at his command, Bill is able to take two other anglers on a relaxing, educational, and consistently victorious day on the water.
Whether you’re just picking up the fly rod for the first time, or an experienced “trout bum” yearning for a new challenge with a highly qualified angler at your side, Bill is the man to book.
