Caney Fork River Trophy Brown Trout

Picture 2 Utilizing spinning tackle, a method that has a very short learning curve even for the complete novice, your guide, Cory Allen, can have you casting and enjoying an educational and scenic angling excursion down the historic Caney Fork river in a matter of moments.

Bejeweled like an azure vein amongst the emerald rolling hills near Carthage, Tennessee, the Caney Fork and its adjoining river systems are home to several world records and variety of sought-after “brass ring” freshwater species. Cory will employ his knowledge of the various species that both call the river home and seasonally visit to create a trip not soon to be forgotten. While the possibility for any number of species exists, including rainbow trout, brook trout, walleye, sauger, smallmouth, largemouth, and temperate basses, these trips specialize in the pursuit of trophy-sized “razorback” brown trout, which are available to the angler year around, and range anywhere from 2-20 pounds or more! Our services boast an average of two or three 20″+ brown trout per trip.

A voracious predator and tenacious fighter, it also stands as one of the most beautiful living creatures that swims in Tennessee waters, especially when they take on the dark auburn and blood burgundy hues of spawning to complement the herald of autumn. Just imagine the photograph of a trophy male brown trout in your hands against the backdrop of ash and oak trees rendered aflame by the first chills of winter’s breath.

Unlike many guide services, that are limited to fishing only a select period of low hydroelectric generation flows, governed completely by the TVA’s demands, our trips are not only are capable of safely navigating and challenging the highest flows Center Hill Dam can muster, but some of our best fishing conditions occur under high flows, of at least 2 full generators, over 7000 cubic feet per second or more. We’ve had great success with large browns up to generation levels on the Caney exceeding 23,000 cfs. Not only is the fishing excellent under these conditions, but the crowds leave the river and you have most of the place all to yourself.

Picture 11You’ll be running the river in safety and style with a 16’10″ Tuffy Esox Ltd powered by a 50 hp Mercury tiller outboard, complete with stainless steel prop guard and jack plate, this craft allows passage through all but the shallowest water at full speed, while the weight and heft of the craft itself combined with the grip of a prop-driven vessel makes for a much safer and stable platform for fishing the Caney than some lighter boats often operated under the sometimes hazardous river conditions. The chance for sudden jolts to compromise the boat’s stability is incredibly low, and the event of flipping the boat due to collisions with submerged water hazards, a problem for many other craft, is virtually null.
